“To teach children, first you have to be their friend.”
– Mikhail Ryabko
Like adults, all children are individuals.
What is the biggest difference between adults and children: the length of their attention span.
Boundaries need to be set, that is crucial, but once we have earned the students trust and respect, discipline becomes less of an issue and the “fun” can start.
What will my child learn?
Fitness, breathing, movement, whether it’s on the ground or standing up, rolls, going to the ground in a safe way, relaxation, escaping grabs, dealing and defending in situations involving multiple attackers.
Punches and kicks are taught, but that’s not all – we don’t just focus only on that but more importantly, we focus on your child’s mental growth: our classes contain lessons in manners, self-control, anger management, non-violent conflict resolution, goal setting, self-improvement and team building.
This helps the growth of core skills and values: focus, discipline, listening, responsibility, respect, self-confidence and courage.
Our class structure offers lifetime self-defense skills and imparts the value of staying healthy and in shape. Our approach is to educate your children to acquire practical knowledge that can be used in their everyday life and reaching beyond the notions of tradition and technique found in martial arts.
How are your classes different?
This is one of the rare places that allows boys and girls to train together. This provides brothers and sisters a unique opportunity to train practice together and learn from each other.
All ages work together. Everyone benefits from this: partner work is usually carried out with students of the same size, new kids, regardless of their age can learn from an experienced 7 year old student!
This method also gives the older kids the opportunity to be role models for the younger ones and in the final group discussion all have an equal say.
Many team sports are seasonal but Systema goes on all year. This stability helps build upon discipline, and allows children to progress very quickly.
Systema children classes make a point of encouraging your child’s self-esteem and confidence.
Although we aim to create challenges to help the kids surpass their limits, we keep the drills easy enough to do.
To make a long story short, we emphasize character development.
